Quick answer

This is a native Windows port, not a browser game. It statically recompiles the PSN version of The Simpsons Arcade Game into a PC executable with ps3recomp. It is playable from Stage 1, and online play is tested for two players on one machine. You need your own decrypted game files.

The original game

Waylon Smithers kidnaps Maggie Simpson after she gets a stolen diamond stuck in her mouth, and the family fights through eight stages to rescue her at the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant. The PSN version wraps the original arcade ROM in an arcade emulator.

Directed by Kengo Nakamura. The PSN release was removed from the PlayStation Network on December 20, 2013. The Simpsons (arcade game) on Wikipedia

The browser version

This repository recompiles The Simpsons Arcade Game (PSN, title ID NPUB30563) into a native PC executable using the ps3recomp toolkit. Its README says "No emulator". It is the PS3 sibling of an already playable Xbox 360 port. What it recompiles is the PSN game's arcade emulator; the game's 6809 code is interpreted from the ROM.

Status per the README: boot, intro, menus and attract mode work, and gameplay works from Stage 1. It runs with keyboard and XInput pad, saves progress, plays music and effects, and runs at 60 fps in menus and 35 to 57 fps in gameplay. Rendering goes through RSX to D3D12.

Online play uses psnr for matchmaking rooms, with game traffic going directly between players. It was tested with two players on one machine (Create Match, Quick Match, lobby, character select and Stage 1 in sync). Three or four players, and play across two machines, are untested, and it depends on ps3recomp changes that were still in review.

You need your own decrypted EBOOT and game files, laid out as the README describes. The repository contains no copyrighted game code, assets, binaries or keys, and the project says it is not affiliated with Konami, Backbone, Sony or Fox. Controls: arrow keys to move, Z to attack, X to jump, Enter for Start.

Static recompilation: instead of emulating the PS3 while you play, a tool translates the game's code into C and C++ ahead of time and compiles it for PC.

Does it have online multiplayer?

Yes, through psnr, but only two players on one machine have been tested.

Do I need to own the game?

Yes. You supply your own decrypted game files. The repository contains none.
