Quick answer

Open runescapeclassic.gold, sign in with Google or a crypto wallet, pick a world and you start in Lumbridge, with no download. It is online with other players, on desktop or phone. The site does not say who runs the servers, whether the client is open source, or what the wallet is used for.

The original game

RuneScape Classic is the original version of RuneScape, set in the world of Gielinor. It began as a text-based MUD with graphics added early. Jagex shut it down on August 6, 2018, after temporary reopenings in 2009, 2010 and 2011. RuneScape and Old School RuneScape have more than 300 million accounts created.

Created by Andrew Gower with his brother Paul Gower. Jagex was formed in December 2001 by the Gower brothers and Constant Tedder. RuneScape on Wikipedia

The browser version

runescapeclassic.gold is titled "RuneScape Classic: Play Free in Your Browser". Its landing page reads "Free to play, in your browser. Classic RuneScape, live again. No download, no install. Sign in with Google or a crypto wallet and you're in Lumbridge in seconds." INXANITY lists it as the original 2001 MMO, online with other players.

The page offers a Sign in with Google button and a Connect wallet button; the wallets named are MetaMask, Phantom and Trust. It says signing in creates your character, and that the character is waiting wherever you sign in. A "choose your world" row lists W1 to W6 and an A1 beta world, with W2 and W3 tagged "F2P version"; you start on World 1 Main.

Three feature cards describe it as playable on desktop, phone or a wallet's built-in browser; as "the world you remember": 18 skills, the classic quests and the original map on a live server with other players; and as a PvP Arena (beta), a separate PvP realm with the same login where you pick your levels and fight in the Wilderness, leaving your main character untouched.

The page does not say who runs it, what the game servers are, what the wallet is used for, whether the client or server code is public, or whether it is endorsed by Jagex. It does not read as a decompilation or recompilation of Jagex's code. The community Open RuneScape Classic project is a separate effort that recreates the game as it existed on May 8, 2001, using black-box reverse engineering; no source here links it to this site.
